Fix builds after fmt lib change

• 1st problem fixed: unsigned char* in the XML lib. The casts I used might be changed to C++ style casts.
• 2nd problem fixed: std::ostream support with the fmt lib, see https://fmt.dev/latest/api.html#std-ostream-support
